MCA supports the rights of every Malaysian to vote, regardless of whether they live in the country or abroad, provided they were registered voters, said its deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
But he said, the MCA considers overseas voters should return home and carry out their responsibility to vote in the election. This is because there are weaknesses to ensure smooth voting through the embassy or consulate of Malaysia.
"MCA believes the rights of every Malaysian to vote. It is our hope that relevant authorities can resolve technical issues and logistics as soon as possible," he said in a news release.
According to Liow, voting in elections is the responsibility of every citizen and the rights of all Malaysians as enshrined in the Constitution.
"MCA believes there are many technical and logistical issues, which need to be resolved first.
"It includes issues such as providing Malaysian embassies to locate more than 700 ballot boxes for the areas the State Legislative Assembly and Parliament.
"The system should be designed to avoid duplication of votes and verify the registered voters," he said.
He was commenting on the MCA public pressure to withdraw the proposal does not allow the people of Malaysia abroad from voting by mail as set forth by perwakliannya to the Select Committee of Parliament (PSC) to reform the electoral system.
On Friday, representatives of the MCA Ei Kim Hock, the MCA central committee member Datuk Ei Kim Hock told the PSC that the proposal to extend the vote to Malaysians abroad is not reasonable because they received information that "suspicious".
"Voters who reside outside the country should not be allowed to vote," he said, adding that the party very seriously because they are living abroad not to follow developments in the country and do not fully understand the situation in Malaysia.
Shortly after the statement is issued, the party condemned the various parties, forcing the party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to make the explanation that Ei has made a mistake.
But he did not say the improvements proposed to be withdrawn.
Instead Liow in his press statement blaming the opposition parties claimed to politicize the issue.
"I urge DAP to not politicize the issue or distort the truth for political gain," he said.
